ABOUT US
Discovery Central is a privately owned learning center operated by the director, Alicia DiDuca.
At a young age, Alicia learned organizational skills, self-discipline, and work ethic as a competitive figure skater. Later in her professional skating career, Alicia began teaching figure skating to young children. It was at this time that she developed a love of teaching; particularly empowering young children to achieve their goals.
Alicia then went on to gain a degree in Early Education and Special Education from Plymouth State University. After college, she taught in various settings ranging from private toddler and preschool programs to public elementary schools. She has taught classes as small as 9 children and as many as 20. Through the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care, Alicia obtained Infant, Toddler, Preschool, Director I, and Director II certifications. She is CPR and First Aid certified. She continues to attend workshops and seminars yearly to advance her growth as an educator.
In 2011, Alicia took her love of teaching to the next level and opened Discovery Central Learning Center. This childcare program began on Central Avenue in Newton and relocated to West Newton in 2021. At Discovery Central, Alicia looks forward to learning about each child who participates in the program.
When Alicia is not teaching, she is extremely active with her family. Along with her husband Omar, and two children Arianna and Zayn; Alicia enjoys skiing, ice skating, hiking, and visiting the White Mountains. Their adopted vizsla pup Shelby enjoys participating in family activities as well.
